I’ve never heard of chronic acid reflux being a “normal” consequence of banding. Everything I’ve ever heard said that if you have chronic reflux, your band is too tight and you need a slight unfill.
Good luck with banding in Mexico! There are lots of great surgeons there and the costs are much less.

In the meantime, to answer your questions - no, you won’t feel hunger. When you have a Lap Band, your stomach is so tiny that it fills up quickly and signals you’re brain you’re full.

Hi Becca, I am in the beginning stages of trying to get Lap Band surgery. I go next week to get a referal to see if I can get it. So, I guess like you I have been researching the procedure and I really wanted a “real” person’s view, I really like the information you have put out here and will return to see your progress. Good luck! And one question, do you have more energy now? ok two, are you ever hungry?

I began my process a few weeks ago. I also have BCBS (TX). I have to wait six months before surgery with dr appt and nutritionist visits once a month till surgery. Did you have six month period also?

Hey there, just wanted to clarify - I got the dress in the 12, and it fits perfectly now But I don’t expect that I’ll be losing too much between now and July because I’m at the very pointy end of my journey. Also, it was my motivation to not put on weight while I’ve been unfilled the last couple of weeks.

Wow! Imagine my surprise to find my tummy staring at me from a new blog I peeked at! Hi Lori - I’m Becca, and I just found your incredibly informative blog.

I started the youtube blog first because I had some funny thing I wanted to say about being fat and getting less fat. I also hoped to put something out there that was more informative for those seeking information than it was a personal story. And of course - like you mentioned - I absolutely love my surgeon, and wanted to direct Midwest area band seekers right to his doorstep.

You are doing a great thing here! If you want to talk to any of our patients, let me know. I will have them email you. Dr McEwen has had excellent results and we have a great group of Banders! I work with a wonderful group who know how to use their band as a tool!

Just wanted to thank you for this website, it has been absolutely invaluable to me - I’m beginning the process of getting banded myself. Good luck to you in getting insurance and getting your own band, if that’s what you decide to do - or maybe you could put up some Google ads and start your banding fund! I have BCBS and they covered mine as well. I had aggravating factors and a BMI of only 38. So I had to follwo the the guidlines for the DR and nutritionist. The dr office had it put all together correctly and they sen t my Pre author # the same day. I am 15 weeks out now down 44 lbs.
